The 8-14 July is National Diabetes Week

National Diabetes Week is an initiative of Diabetes Australia, and aims to ‘raise awareness about the importance of early detection and early treatment for all types of diabetes’.

Diabetes is a complex and chronic condition caused when the body can’t regulate insulin production (it either doesn’t produce enough or produces none at all). Insulin is a hormone that helps to convert glucose (found in bread, cereals, fruit, soda, flavoured milk and more) into energy – so when little or no insulin is present in the bloodstream, glucose levels rise and cause a range of short and long-term health conditions.

Bowel Cancer Awareness Month

June is Bowel Cancer Awareness Month throughout Australia. According to Bowel Cancer Australia 80 people die from bowel cancer in Australia every week, making it the 2nd deadliest cancer in the country.

Bowel Cancer Australia advocates early detection, and so it’s very important to visit your local GP should you be worried about any of the warning symptoms.

Park Medical Group’s own Doctor Sanjeev attended the Public Health Collaboration Annual Conference 2018 on May 19-20, held at the Royal College of General Practitioners, London.

Low Carb Down Under Conference

In early May 2018, Park Medical Group’s own Doctor Sanjeev attended the Low Carb Down Under (LCDU) conference in Sydney.

LCDU advocates that a low carbohydrate, high healthy fat diet is essential to attaining optimal health and weight. This diet has been also been shown to reverse type 2 diabetes, metabolic syndrome, fatty liver disease and obesity.
